Mavericks won NBA title for the first time

Last June 12, 2011 was the NBA Finals in what we call Dallas Mavericks vs. Miami Heat. The Mavericks defeated the Heat in six games, closing out the series, 4-2, by winning at American Airlines Arena. The final score: Mavericks won over Heat by 105 to 95.

During the last few minutes of the game, Shawn Marion dribbled the ball out and then handed it Jason Kidd as the buzzer sounded. Not wasting any time, Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki ran directly off the court while Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and coach Rick Carlisle hugged each other on the court.

It is the first title in franchise history and the first ring for Nowitzki, Kidd, Marion and guard Jason Terry. If i’m not mistaken, the team up of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh led to the Heat’s loss. James is now 0-for-2 in his Finals career and he walked off the court alone, making it his worse moment.

However, things get puzzling after the championship.

Dallas Mavericks won the title for the first time, yet its team owner Mark Cuban jokingly dismissed the idea of giving his team championship rings as a reward. Probably he was bored because Mark Cuban thought that rings were “old school”. He’d try to come up with a new reward for Dallas’ 8 1/2-month trek. Speaking of championship rings, this doesn’t go well with Maverick players.

I think Jason Terry is right. Whether Cuban likes it or not, the players deserve to have those championship rings. Since some teams have them.

The loss of Miami Heat made the Miami fans upset. Making matters worse, a full-page ad that ran in Monday’s Miami Herald has mistakenly congratulated the Miami Heat on winning. It read “Congratulations Miami” next to photos of Heat championship T-shirts and hats from Macy’s. One T-shirt reads “Heat 2011 NBA Finals Champions” and the ad shows the Heat’s logo on a hat with the words “NBA Champions.” The Miami Herald editors & Macy’s Inc. spokeswoman called it an unfortunate error and apologized to Heat fans.

We understand the error. As usual, people make mistakes like these. They didn’t mean to upset the team.

Again, congratulations to Dallas Mavericks for winning the NBA title for the first time. They worked very hard to earn it. I hope they can do it again. Any team who haven’t won any title yet can earn a title as long as they work hard to earn it.
