MC’s Corner: 10 Years

June 17, 2017

Today marks my 10th year on WordPress. Initially, my blog was called MC’s Cool Blog. During the 1st few years, I rarely posted blogs. I gave little attention to it since I was more into Multiply (where I occasionally blogged about my personal stuff), Friendster, Imeem & YouTube (where I search for music until now), et. al. Among the blogs I posted back then were Music fit for studying, parody of dadagdag’s Jun Lozada vs. The Mob (created by one of my friends), 99.5 RT & Super Ondoy.

Since mid-2010, I began writing posts on an occasional basis. I also use my blog to promote my videos (except airchecks) on my YouTube channel. The next year, my blog rose to fame with my post about Talk TV (which later became Solar News, 9TV & CNN PH). Later on, realizing that the name “cool blog” sounds weird, I renamed my blog to MC’s Corner, which fits better for my blog. In 2014, my blog rose to fame once again with my post about Retro 105.9, and the station even shared it. Since then, I focus more on radio, including a yearly review about Philippine radio. But, I still write about other topics as well since it’s boring for me to focus on only 1 topic.

It takes a lot of time for me to gather ideas for a particular post. And I have a lot of stuff to prioritize, especially my studies. Those are why I don’t usually post on my blog. Nonetheless, I still post something whenever I have something in mind. Anyway, happy 10th anniversary to my blog.

No more social networking in Multiply

April 14, 2013
Multiply International.

Multiply International.

Last March 23, Multiply closed down its social networking services for good in favor of focusing on e-commerce. This was officially announced by Multiply’s CEO, Stefan Magdalinski, last August 9, 2012. We users had thought it would cease to exist last December.

Everything happens for a reason, especially this site. The rise of Facebook back in 2009 marks the downfall of Friendster & Multiply. These 2 continued to be social networking sites for a few more years until Friendster revamped as a social gaming site around August 2011. When this happened, it was a good thing FS had retained our account & created a tool to download our stuff in our account there before its revamp. I still have an account there, though I don’t use it that much.

However, Multiply’s revamp was unexpected, unlike FS’s revamp. When it revamped as an e-commerce site, it deleted our accounts. During his announcement, Magdalinski promised to provide “easy ways for you to either download your stuff (photos, blogs, content, etc), or migrate it to other online services” with details to be announced at a later date. But, it didn’t really happen. There was no export tool at all. Our accounts, especially our stuff there, were deleted for good! Screw that Magdalinski for breaking that promise.

I even returned to personal blogging using  my Multiply account around late December last year, as if Multiply’s closure wouldn’t happen. And come March 23, when I was about to write another personal blog, it eventually closed down without further notice. Now my account & website, especially my posts, are gone. I don’t know if I’ll continue my personal blogging somewhere or not anymore. If it wasn’t for FB, this shouldn’t have happened at all. Looks like there’s no choice, but to accept these changes.
